These recordings are some of the earliest on the site. The quality for the most part is poor. They are crunchy, grungy, primal and they are glorious. Culled from performances and rehearsals they are the closest recorded links to the center.
Track 01: "Hesitation Blues" Here Phil Feminello rehearses one of the many Jorma/Rev. Davis tunes he covered. Phil was the first person I ever met that had "the music" in him. He was an amazing talent.
Track 02: "Newtown Creek" From the very first W&C party in December of 1976 comes this fine Fred Rubino original. Performed by the Newtown Creek Bogey Band, this recording was borrowed from Fred's Newtown Creek Music site. Also, here is a link to view the official program from that first W&C.
Track 03: "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" Always a crowd favorite, this version features a very young Matt Roberts on banjo.
Track 04: "That Good Ol' Mountain Dew" An audience participation number, to me this song says Wine and Cheese more than any other. Not sure of the lead singer here (I think it was a fellow named George) but I'm sure someone will be able to ID it and I'll revise the credit at that time.
Track 05: "Light Of This World" A short excerpt from a Phil performance of this Rev. Gary Davis tune. The speed seems slightly off to me so I'll have to fix it in a later mastering.
